April’s style chat is with the lovely April @spanishaprilx (did you see what we did there? ; )

Please introduce yourself

I’m April, a petite 52 year old working mum of two. I’m proud of my age and never hide it. I like to run 5-10k (something I didn’t start until my late 40s). I do Parkrun every week and also in the last year I’ve started to weight train with my personal trainer.

I don’t work in fashion but in the corporate world so my Instagram account is my escape from the hum drum of the office. My first job when I left school was in hairdressing and have always loved doing my hair and love a good hair styling tool!

How do you describe your signature personal style?

I’ve always loved fashion and I love bright colours – especially red. Whether it’s a red dress, shoes or a jacket, I’m immediately drawn to it! Working in a corporate world, I love a classic shift dress or trouser suit with a pair of heels. Weekends are more casual in jeans and a tee but dressing up is definitely my favourite style.

Who’s style are you inspired by? In real life or online.

My mum inspired me, she always dressed smart, like most Spanish women, even in her eighties, so it’s stuck with me too and I always prefer to overdress than underdress.

My style icon is Sarah Jessica Parker – she always looks fabulous and always with a great pair of heels too!

If you had to pick your favourite piece from the Just Add Style luxury silk scarf collection, which would it be and why?

I think the London Fashion silk square is a modern classic that can be worn for years and styled so many different ways, both for work or more causally at the weekend tied in my hair in a bun.

How did you become a fashion influencer?

By accident. I started my account as had seen others with big accounts and thought I’d give it a go. Before Covid, my account was mainly my work style but working from home has changed that but will return again soon. I didn’t realise how much work was involved with insta, I just thought it was taking a pic and then posting it.

Which 3 Instagram accounts do you currently love and want to recommend?

Only 3? Wow that’s a difficult one. I love @fashionlift, love her try ons, like a virtual tour of the shops while I’m WFH. @boxdgifting sells the most beautiful homeware and gifts. Am running out of space in my house to fit any more of her lovely pieces. My work inspiration has to be @monikagoestowork. Can I go on? I could name so many accounts I love.
