Silk & The City… ‘London Fashion’

Silk & The City… ‘London Fashion’

Silk & The City is our evolving collection of luxury silk scarves, inspired by the stylish women we witness during our global adventures. The scarves are our unique and modern interpretation of the timeless silk square and each tells a visually sophisticated story of our fashion muses and the cities they live in, creating a sensational design juxtaposition of old meets new.

‘London Fashion’ is the original silk scarf designed in our London studio, a haven of fashion and style. The print is a contemporary celebration of urban glamour in our beloved capital. Our signature radial print is a considered curation of forty-two individually hand drawn, ink illustrations by Em. Em, with her acute eye for stylish women, has carved out a successful niche for herself in the world of fashion illustration and is known for her talent for capturing refined, minimal and realistic silhouettes. The scarf’s pearlescent grey tones and up-to-date colour pop of coral flatter every woman, irrespective of age.

‘London Fashion’ is crafted from the finest silk yarns, printed using sustainable digital techniques and finished with artisan hand rolled edges. Each scarf is individually manufactured at the small, family run printers we’ve collaborated with in the town where silk originated over 5000 years ago. Supreme quality lies at the heart of everything we do and our close partnership ensures our scarves are made to the highest standards.

Our vision for the Just Add Style brand is to create meticulously curated collections of much loved silk scarves. Our intention is for women to find something they adore within the collection and to treasure it forever. ‘London Fashion’ is a key piece of stand-out style, a celebration of everything Brit-cool – elegant and eminently wearable.

We’re passionate about supporting and encouraging women to thrive and we pledge to donate £5 of every online Just Add Style scarf sale to Smart Works, a UK charity which helps empower women to succeed in the world of employment. So do good while you look good and treat yourself to some luxury silk.

From London, with love…

Just Add Style in the fashion press!

We’re thrilled to see our ‘London Fashion’ luxury silk twill scarf feature in YOU magazine as one of Jo Elvin’s curated Editor’s Picks.

Jo was instrumental in launching Em’s global fashion illustration career when she profiled her style while editing fashion glossy Glamour. Jo’s support in the early days massively helped Em’s international client list and her respected reputation in the world of high end fashion and art.

We’re passionate about supporting and encouraging women to thrive. So much so, we pledge to donate £5 of every online Just Add Style scarf sale to Smart Works, a UK charity which helps empower women to succeed in the world of employment.

They harness the power of clothes and confidence to allow a woman to be her best at a crucial moment in her life, giving her the self-belief and the practical tools required to succeed at interview and transform her life.

Women are referred to Smart Works from organisations such as job centres, work programmes, prisons, care homes, homeless shelters and mental health charities. Half have been unsuccessful in over 20 applications. A third have been turned down from over 50 jobs. All are suffering from a lack of confidence in their own abilities.

The tangible impact the Smart Works service has on a woman’s confidence is something they have they privilege to witness every day. The magic begins when she enters the dressing room and is styled into her interview outfit, hers to keep, by trained volunteers. She looks in the mirror and sees a new and impressive version of herself. This is followed by one-to-one interview coaching, after which 64% of their clients go on to get the job.

The Story So Far

The Story So Far

Talented graphic designer Lisa Kew and award winning fashion illustrator Emma Cowlam have been firm friends since meeting at a swimming pool in 2007. It’s a long story! Back then Lisa was heading up her own successful design agency which continues to thrive and Em was studying textile design at Chelsea Art School in London and gathering a wealth of creative industry experience through freelance work.

They instantly formed a special bond which developed during daily post-swim conversations centred upon art, design, style and life. With Em seeking career advice and some life guidance, Lisa took her under her creative wing and mentored her professionally and personally through the highs (and not-so-highs) of her twenties and her life in London and New York. As Em’s fashion illustration career flourished, their mentor-mentee relationship progressed into a great friendship.

Their lightbulb moment came in December 2018 when they decided to establish a collaborative studio dedicated to designing the sophisticated and stylish womenswear accessories they wanted in their lives. The Just Add Style story began…

Em and Lisa share a long lasting passion for scarves and the vision for their collaborative partnership is to design contemporary pieces of luxury, soft-to-touch silk that can be worn and treasured forever. The inspiration for each of the silk artworks in our growing collection comes from stylish and confident women across the globe. The designs are a perfect visual representation of the marriage between Em’s highly skilled craftsmanship for fashion drawing and Lisa’s innovative design work.

Em and Lisa have grand plans for their silk studio brand and are looking forward to sharing it.

We hope you enjoy coming on our journey.
